1. You’ll develop better eating habits
While we mentioned there’s no restrictions on eating your favourite food no matter how sticky or crunchy they are, ideally you still need to wear your invisible braces for 22 hours per day. Plus, you must remove it before eating, brush afterwards and put it back on.
Hence when you feel the urge to reach for candy bars or junk food to snack on between meals, you’ll be more likely to think twice and eventually change your mind about it when you remember that you’re wearing invisible braces. In the end, you will fit your meals and snack breaks into the two-hour window to optimise your treatment effectiveness. Gradually, you will ditch the unnecessary calories and feel peckish less often.
2. You’ll clean your teeth more often
Invisible braces treatment means you’ll be carrying a toothbrush everywhere you go. This is to prevent tooth decay and prevent discolouration of your invisible braces. Foods may contain sugars and or acids, and if invisible braces are placed back on the teeth immediately after eating it is possible that harmful compounds may be trapped against the tooth surfaces by the braces.
While saliva keeps the bacteria under control naturally, invisible braces block any saliva that would normally rinse teeth, so it’s highly important to brush teeth thoroughly every time you take your invisible braces out to eat or drink.
3. You’ll drink more water
Just like with metal braces, you can drink whatever you want with invisible braces but only when you’re not wearing them. It’s extremely important to take your invisible braces out to drink anything aside from plain water. Drinking coffee, tea or juice will cause the plastic to stain – this defeats the purpose of having virtually invisible treatment! So in the end you’ll stick to drinking only water outside of mealtimes.
Drinking water will wash away some of the sugar, acid and plaque. It also stimulates saliva, which is important for neutralising plaque acids and keeping teeth healthy. Having a dry mouth can cause discomfort in wearing invisible braces, so you would want to increase your water intake!
4. You’ll develop a ‘14-day cycle’
You will be looking at calendars more often and counting the days until your next braces switch, which is every 14 days. When you start wearing each new set of invisible braces, you may feel a little extra pressure or discomfort for the first few days.
